As many of you already know, a cause very close to my heart is called CureDuchenne, a national nonprofit that raises awareness and funds to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
If you are unfamiliar, Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a devastating muscle disease in children, affecting one in every 3,500 male births. Historically, Duchenne boys have not lived beyond their mid-20s. Those that do are faced with progressively weaker muscles and pulmonary and cardiac failure. The potential now exists, however, to make a difference in their quality of life.
Three years ago, with the help of Mack and Sally Brown, University of Texas’ “first family of football,” an amazing event was created here in Austin called “Champions To CureDuchenne,” a now-annual incredible fundraiser held out at the University of Texas Golf Club each Spring and hosted by Vince Young here in 2013.
To help promote the awareness of CureDuchenne and our Champions To CureDuchenne event coming up on Friday, March 22nd, I am writing this post today to invite you to a very special “Unofficial Mayor of Austin” Happy Hour at Vince Young Steakhouse (301 San Jacinto Boulevard) in just a couple weeks on Wednesday, January 30th from 6-8pm.
We’ll be gathering at the gorgeous bar inside Vince Young Steakhouse where owners and hosts, Laura McIngvale Brown and Phillip Brown, have so kindly offered to provide complimentary wine and beer during the event. CureDuchenne representatives will be on hand to offer guests more information on the disease, the charity and our upcoming fundraiser out at UT Golf Club.
AND…if you ‘ve yet to receive an “Unofficial Mayor of Austin” koozie, we’ll have’em on hand, as well, for any and all to grab.
Hope to see you at Vince Young Steakhouse in a few weeks! Thanks for all your continued support. Cheers, y’all!
