MLK Holiday Greatness: Nothin’ Like Hittin’ The Open Road…

It’s no secret in my world that given any opportunity, I love to hit the open road, especially with my trusty sidekick, Sir Shiner Dog…the thrill of new discoveries and experiences can’t be beat, let alone the excellent chance to get “off the beaten path.” Windows rolled down, sunroof open, tunes turned up. These are great days…

In honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Shiner and I celebrated his National Holiday yesterday in fine fashion by exhibiting the freedom we, so often, take for granted…getting out while we can and enjoyed every bit of the day.

Shiner and I headed out of Austin, down the “Texas BBQ Trail,” through the so-called “BBQ Capital of Texas” in Lockhart, to another legendary source of brilliant seared meats in these parts, that being City Market BBQ in Luling, Texas, home to some of the finest sausage I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting.

The day only to get better with our continued travels to the one and only zenith of all things Shiner Beer at the Spoetzl Brewery in the small, fantastic town of my pooch’s namesake, Shiner, Texas, where cold brews were sampled and new friends were made.

The weather couldn’t have been any better, the company even more perfect and the BBQ and beers top notch. Another excellent day in the life. Long live the open road!

Cheers, y’all…
