If you find yourself seeking a cool experience and in need of a short day trip from Austin, might I recommend the uber-unique setting of Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, located in between Llano and Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country.
The enormous pink granite rock formation is a great location for a mildly strenuous hike, offering spectacular views of the Texas hills, covering roughly 640 acres and rising to an elevation of 1,825 feet above sea level. You can choose a variety of different trails to explore, none of which I found really that taxing, but you’ll definitely want to bring water to keep hydrated, especially if visiting during the hot Texas summers.
Designated an official Texas Historic Landmark in 1936, Enchanted Rock is well worth the drive from Austin. Experience it for yourself!
