Short and sweet, but to the point. Last night, I witnessed Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros absolutely kill it during their Season 38 taping of Austin City Limits down at ACL Live at Moody Theater.
Simply phenomenal. The band, comprised of twelve individually talented musicians, who, when assembled together, make the kind of music that is impossible not to feel good about..smiles, laughter, fun, psychedelic whimsy, folky funkiness. That’s what Ed Sharpe and the Zeros are all about.
Lead vocalist, Alexander Ebert, and the cast of characters banged out many of their hits during the 90-minute set, including “Man On Fire,” “Up From Below,” “40 Day Dream,” “Desert Song,” the crowd favorite, “Home” and a stellar new track, “Mayla,” from their current album, “Here.”
Having attended roughly eight other Austin City Limits tapings over the last few years, I’d put this performance at the very top of the list. Right there with Mumford and Sons from last Spring. Absolutely brilliant.
In the event you’ve yet to attend an ACL taping, you’re missing out. Keep you’re eyes on the Austin City Limits web site and blog – www.acltv.com – for information on upcoming tapings and throw your email in the ring for the “audience lottery.” The experience is a must for any music fan and true Austinite. Good luck and happy listening, y’all!
